Management Development Perspectives
Since 2005, Management Development Perspectives (MDP) program has been providing managers and administrators with a broad understanding of University goals, challenges, and vision. Senior University leadership, in formal presentations and dialogue, enable participants to gain insight into current organizational and future institutional endeavors.

Goals and Objectives
Through the lens of the Boston College’s Jesuit tradition, educational ideals, and University strategic mission, the goals of MDP are:
- To deepen participants’ knowledge and understanding of 51²è¹Ý’s history, culture, goals, operating principles, and challenges
- To broaden participants’ perspective about the mission of the University beyond their own functional area and illuminate the interconnectedness among work units
- To provide opportunities for participants, program alumni, and senior leadership to connect and build relationships that enhance their effectiveness
- To encourage analysis, creativity and action planning in meeting the challenges facing the University
- To increase participants’ self-awareness by providing opportunities for reflection and discussion around their own strengths and developmental areas as leaders
Structure and Content
MDP takes place over an academic year from mid-September to end of May. The program begins with an orientation and a two-day retreat that focuses on the University’s origins, traditions, goals, history, governance, and executive functions. Subsequent half-day sessions consist of topics germane to University organizational divisions. Areas have included Mission and Ministry, Academic Administration, Financial Management and Operations, Human Resources, Student Life, Admission, Advancement, and Information Technology.
Selection Process
Participants are selected through a nomination process. In early summer, a letter is sent to the vice presidents and deans to identify potential candidates from among the mid- to senior-level managers in their areas. Every effort is made to ensure a heterogeneous cohort. Final selections are made in July and participants are notified shortly thereafter. A commitment to attend all sessions is expected.

MDP Alumni
Learning opportunities continue for the over 340 ‘graduates’ to date. Programs and events are offered exclusively for MDP alums. Some examples include book discussions, leadership skills workshops, and special networking events.
