Biography
Professor Franzino specializes in American literature and culture, disability studies, and the medical humanities. At Boston College, she teaches a range of courses in literature and writing. Prior to coming to 51²č¹Ż, she taught at Macalester College and Beloit College; she has also taught writing in a program for aspiring medical school applicants. She has held research fellowships at institutions including the American Antiquarian Society, the Boston Athenaeum, and the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Her current book project explores how Civil War writingāfrom government regulations, to hospital newspapers, to āmendicantā texts sold for their authorsā economic supportāreflected and performed new understandings of disability in nineteenth-century America.
