Complete Trivium on your own schedule

Trivium Summer Program is an eight-week program available on Canvas. It is designed to be completed on your own schedule. There are several required tasks for each weekly module, which focus on key skill areas that are vital to graduate student career success. Most take anywhere from 20-60 minutes to complete.

In addition to focusing on skills graduate students will learn effective ways to prepare application documents in order to better communicate the value of their graduate training to employers. Finally, users will be prompted to think about how their graduate degree can translate into various career fields and will be introduced to different industries based on their skills and interests.

The Canvas site will be launched in late May. We recommend starting the program on June 1.

Week 1

Career Management

Example Activities:

  • Take a self-assessment to identify your interests and skills
  • Conduct informational interviews with alumni
  • Learn how to read job descriptions

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify 1-3 skills I hope to incorporate into my career path
  • Identify 1-3 career fields that align with my interests that I am interested in further exploring
  • Demonstrate ability to understand job postings
Week 2

Oral/Written Communication

Example Activities:

  • Take a communication style assessment
  • Translate your CV into a resume
  • Write a cover letter draft

Learning Outcomes:

  • Articulate my communication style, along with the strengths and weaknesses of that style
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate ideas, experiences, and strengths through networking conversations and interviewing
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate experiences, skills, and interests on resumes, CVs, cover letters, and others.
Week 3

Global and Intercultural Fluency

Example Activities:

  • Take implicit association self assessments
  • Complete community diversity assessment

Learning Outcomes:

  • Articulate the importance of diversity in the workplace
  • Identify at least one cultural group or dimension of identity that is different from my own that I would like to continue learning about
Week 4

Teamwork and Collaboration

Example Activities:

  • Take a conflict style assessment
  • Complete a multicultural teams reflection

Learning Outcomes:

  • Articulate my strengths as they relate to teamwork and collaboration.
  • Articulate my areas for growth as they relate to teamwork and collaboration
Week 5

Digital Technology

Example Activities:

  • Build skills for common digital resources
  • Research industry specific technical skills

Learning Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate the ability to use Handshake for a job or internship search
  • Demonstrate the ability to use common workplace technologies (e.g. spreadsheets, presentations)
Week 6

Leadership

Example Activities:

  • Take a leadership style assessment
  • Create a project management tracker
  • Create a mission statement

Learning Outcomes:

  • Articulate my leadership style and strengths
  • Articulate how I will become a person for others
Week 7

Critical Thinking and Problem Solving

Example Activities:

  • Reflect on problem solving strategies
  • Complete the failure immunity worksheet

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify my strengths in critical thinking and problem solving
  • Identify my areas for growth in critical thinking and problem solving
Week 8

Professionalism and Work Ethic

Example Activities:

  • Learn about professional etiquette听
  • Create SMART goals

  • Articulate an understanding that professional and effective work habits are culturally-dependent
