Because Every Guy Needs His Team
The Freshmen League is a mentorship program for first-year men at 51²è¹Ý. In the Spring semester, Freshmen join a team with seven other first-year guys and two upperclassmen leaders called Captains. The purpose of the program is to help first-year guys learn the ropes of 51²è¹Ý, give them access to upperclassmen mentors, and take part in various off-campus outings with a group of 51²è¹Ý guys.
What will I do in the Freshmen League?
Freshmen League teams meet once a week during the spring semester with their Captains. The meetings are a casual get together where guys can talk about their 51²è¹Ý experience and benefit from the wisdom of the Captains.
Freshmen League teams also have a modest programming budget to spend on various outings off campus and in the city of Boston. In the past, teams have played trampoline dodgeball, dined out in the North End, attended a Red Sox game, gone bowling, and played mini-golf among other activities.
Participants and Captains of the Freshmen League will attend one program wide off-campus Overnight in January. This Overnight will provide each team an opportunity to get to know their Captains and the other members of their team at the beginning of the program. Attending one of the Overnights is mandatory for all participants and two dates are offered each year in January.
How do I become part of the Freshmen League?
Applications to the Freshmen League open each year in September and the deadline to apply is in November. The program begins in January, but all first-year men must apply in the Fall semester and all applicants are invited to an in-person interview after submitting their application.
What does the program cost?
There is a $135 fee to be part of Freshmen League and the fee subsidizes the cost of the Overnight and each team’s programming budget. Financial assistance is available for any student who requires it. Once accepted into the Freshmen League, participants will be instructed on the process to request aid.
