ArcGIS Pro
Boston College has a site license for ArcGIS Pro. Students and faculty may install it on their own computers.
ArcGIS Desktop
Each installation ofÌýArcGIS DesktopÌýrequires an authorization file.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
ArcGIS Desktop (aka ArcMAP), is reaching end of life. After May 31, 2025 all ArcGIS Desktop licenses will automatically be converted to ArcGIS Pro licenses. Our recommendation is that you begin using ArcPro before May 31, 2025.

Mathematica (Wolfram Mathematica)
Boston College has a site license for Mathematica. Students and faculty may install Mathematica on their computers.
Download from the Wolfram Portal
The most efficient way of installing Mathematica is to follow the instructions on downloading the software and obtaining the activation key directly from a Wolfram portal from the link buttons below. Note: Downloading Mathematica will progress much more quickly using a wired internet connection.
Matlab
Boston College has a site license for Matlab. Students and faculty may download and install it on their computers.

SAS
SAS is an integrated collection of quantitative analysis, and data management and warehousing software. It is used both in academic research, academic administration, and in private industry (across disciplines).
- Licensed for teaching and research use by 51²è¹Ý Faculty and Staff.
- Licenses for administrative purposes are obtained individually through ITS Research Services.
- Available via the 51²è¹Ý Application Server:
- Installed on computers in the 51²è¹Ý Libraries Digital Studio (O'Neill 205), various departmental computer labs, and on the Linux Research Cluster (Scorpio).

SPSS (IBM SPSS Statistics)
Students
There are a few options for students to access IBM SPSS:
- Via the 51²è¹Ý Application Server ().
- Via 51²è¹Ý-owned computers, such as computers in offices and labs.
- Students who want to install SPSS on their computer, can lease SPSS for 12 months for less than $100 fromÌý.

Important: bcapps.bc.edu is not a good place to use SPSS with sensitive or secure data. If you have sensitive or secure data and are using SPSS, please contact researchservices@bc.edu to discuss how best to accommodate your needs.
Faculty 51²è¹Ý-Owned Computers
51²è¹Ý has licenses for teaching and non-commercial academic research for use by 51²è¹Ý faculty on 51²è¹Ý-owned computers. If you would like SPSS installed on your 51²è¹Ý-owned computer, contact your Technology Consultant (TC) or ITS Research Services (researchservices@bc.edu).
Faculty Personally-Owned Computers
